Complete heart block in patients with peroneal muscular atrophy.

چکیده
Two patients with peroneal muscular atrophy who also had complete heart block are reported. The pathogenesis of heart block in one of these patients was investigated by left ventricular volume analysis which showed a normal ejection fraction, indicating intact left ventricular function. This patient in addition had a normal coronary arteriogram. These findings suggest that heart block in patients with peroneal muscular atrophy may be due to primary conduction tissue disease rather than cardio-myopathy.

Familial autosomal recessive rigid spine syndrome with neurogenic facio-scapulo-peroneal muscle atrophy.
Two sisters and a first cousin presented with rigid spine and facio-scapulo-peroneal muscle atrophy. The patients belonged to a family with two first-cousin marriages. Electromyography, muscle and nerve biopsy showed neurogenic muscle atrophy without peripheral nerve involvement. Follow up did not show progression of the disease. This is the first observation of an association of neurogenic fac...

A 54-year-old man was diagnosed as having PMA 15 years earlier. His legs had an 'inverted bottle' appearance with marked wasting of the peroneal muscles and bilateral pes cavus. The tendon jerks were absent in the lower limbs whilst those in the upper limbs were diminished. The plantar responses were equivocal. There was no sensory deficit for the appreciation of light touch, pain or temperatur...
متن کاملEmery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy: the most recognizable laminopathy.
Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (EDMD), a rare inherited disease, is characterized clinically by humero-peroneal muscle atrophy and weakness, multijoint contractures, spine rigidity and cardiac insufficiency with conduction defects. There are at least six types of EDMD known so far, of which five have been associated with mutations in genes encoding nuclear proteins. The majority of the EDMD ...
متن کاملSpinal Muscular Atrophy: A Short Review Article
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disorder which affect nervous system and is characterized with progressive distal motor neuron weakness. The survival motor neuron (SMN) protein level reduces in patients with SMA. Two different genes code survival motor neuron protein in human genome. Skeletal and intercostal muscles denervation lead to weakness, hypotony, hyporeflexia, respiratory fa...
متن کاملDifferences in F-Wave Characteristics between Spinobulbar Muscular Atrophy and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
There is limited data on the differences in F-wave characteristics between spinobulbar muscular atrophy (SBMA) and lower motor neuron dominant (LMND) amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). We compared the parameters of F-waves recorded bilaterally from the median, ulnar, tibial, and deep peroneal nerves in 32 SBMA patients, 37 patients with LMND ALS, and 30 normal controls. The maximum F-wave amp...
